Greta Nebel

Born in Vienna, Austria, drawing and painting have been my passion since early childhood. My desire to be an artist seems to have been encoded in my DNA, as both my grandfathers have been artists. Between 1970 and 1985 I studied at the School of Fine Arts in Vienna and attended

many private workshops and summer academies with the renowned masters Prof. Gerda Matejka-Felden, Prof. Fritz Martinz and many more.

Between 1985 and 2005 I embarked on a series of study tours to the the Caribbean, Africa, Latin America and Southern Europe. I painted landscapes and mundane scenery “en plein air”,

spending countless hours intensely watching nature, absorbing and then simplifying, to organize the composition, tonal values, textures and colour, thereby nurturing my sensitivity and skills.

Since 2005 I lived many months of the year on the coastal area of Tenerife studying the seascapes and landscapes of the island. Later I moved to Majorca, which attracts so many artists due to its special light and its beautiful and inspiring scenery.

During the past few years I am drawn to the human figure in motion and only in 2021 I started focusing on flowers and fruits, those precious, fragile elements that fade away so quickly and can be seen as a metaphor for life.

Each subject demands a certain style, pallet and brushstroke to best express the emotions and sensations that it evokes. As I delve deeper during sketching and painting, my style adapts to the dynamics and character of the subject.

As I delve deeper during sketching and painting, my style adapts to the dynamics and character of the subject. I attended numerous group exhibitions, organised solo shows, permanent exhibitions and Open House events in Vienna, London, Tenerife and Mallorca and I appear on the internet since 2003. My solo exhibitions include the WIFI Vienna in 2001, Convento de Granadilla

(Tenerife) and Centro Cultural Los Cristianos (Tenerife) in 2010 with up to 90 paintings shown in public at the same time.

Many of my paintings are in private collections in Austria, Germany, Spain, The United States, France, Great Britain, Ghana and more.

I participated in only 2 art competitions in my life, once as a child where I became the award winner and the other of the Government of Arona (Tenerife) in 2010 where I won the 2nd award.

Throughout my artistic life I have yet focused rather on developing an ample repertoire of techniques to express my views, pushing steadily further into the alchemy of fine art, reaching new realms and yet stronger means of visual expression. The magical journey continues.
